A flat, gap-free surface for your shelving. The Pine Top Shelf is 900mm wide, with a solid pine top board of about 20mm fixed onto timber bases instead of slats. It fits a standard Shelf Space bay and turns it into a desk, workstation or packing bench. It's made in South Africa from heat-treated pine and is delivered free anywhere in the country.
Use it for a home office, a laptop or printer station, a study area, a craft table, a packing bench, a shop counter or anywhere small items would fall through a slatted shelf.
Why customers choose it
- No gaps: one flat pine board, so you can write, work and put down small items.
- Strong: recommended for up to 100kg per shelf when assembled correctly.
- Build a desk into your unit: remove the shelves below and sit at it like a desk.
- Five depths: from 200mm to 600mm.
- Custom width: we can cut it narrower where suitable.
Which depth do I need?
Choose the same depth as the shelves on your unit. For a desk, 500mm or 600mm gives the most working space.

What's in the box
- 1 × pine top shelf, 900mm wide, in your chosen depth, with the top fixed to timber bases
- Screws to fix it to your uprights
- Allen key
How to fit it
Choose your height, line the shelf up with the pre-drilled holes in the uprights, and fix it with the screws and Allen key supplied. Check that it is level and stable before you load it. To sit at it like a desk, remove the shelves below and use base connectors instead, which keep the frame stable and leave room for a chair. Keep the depths in the bay matching, or use a reducer shelf to change from one depth to another.
Add extra components
- Drawer: a sliding drawer box from R314 underneath, for a keyboard or stationery.

- Shelves above: Standard shelf from R187.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get it narrower than 900mm?
Yes, where suitable. Order the depth you need and add your exact width in the special instructions at checkout.
How much weight can it hold?
Up to 100kg per shelf, when it is assembled correctly in a Shelf Space unit.
How is it different from a standard shelf?
A standard shelf has slats. This one has a single flat pine board on top, so there are no gaps.
