At Shelf Space, we believe in doing things properly — no shortcuts, no nonsense.
We are a proudly South African manufacturer and supplier of modular timber shelving and storage solutions, and we always aim to be:
Fair
Practical
Respectful
Solution-driven
Sometimes things do not go exactly to plan. Real life happens. When it does, we believe in communicating properly and working towards practical, lawful and fair solutions for everyone involved.
By using our website, accepting a quotation, approving drawings or specifications, making payment, accepting delivery, permitting access to site, or allowing assembly to proceed, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agreed to be legally bound by these Terms & Conditions, together with our website policies and Terms of Service.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, including the Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008.
Our products are manufactured using real timber and industrial manufacturing processes.
This means:
Timber is a natural product and not laboratory-made
Grain, knots, colour variation, texture, resin, bowing, movement and minor imperfections are normal and expected
Slight manufacturing tolerances, joins, sanding marks, filling, machining marks and natural timber movement may occur
Product photos are illustrative and final products may vary slightly
These are natural characteristics of timber and do not automatically constitute defects.
We reserve the right to make reasonable manufacturing, hardware or design adjustments where necessary, provided the product remains suitable for its intended purpose.
All products are manufactured or supplied according to the measurements, drawings, layouts, specifications and instructions supplied or approved by the customer and/or their appointed representative.
The customer is responsible for ensuring that:
Measurements are accurate
Products will fit into the intended space
Access routes are suitable
Walls, floors, ceilings and mounting surfaces are structurally suitable
The site is safe, level, clear and accessible
The selected product is suitable for the intended use
Once approved, all drawings, layouts and specifications are deemed final.
If incorrect, omitted, inaccessible, obstructed, changed or inaccurate information is supplied, any redesigns, remanufacturing, return visits, delays, collections, redeliveries, labour or reassembly may be requoted separately and charged accordingly.
Shelf Space may provide delivery and standard assembly or setup services where applicable.
Unless expressly agreed in writing, we do not perform:
On-site cutting
Carpentry modifications
Structural alterations
Electrical work
Plumbing work
Engineering or building work
Site preparation or repairs
Our assembly teams work according to approved plans, supplied materials and standard assembly procedures.
If unforeseen obstructions, uneven surfaces, hidden services, restricted access, unsafe conditions or site limitations are encountered, assembly may be delayed, suspended, cancelled or requoted.
This policy exists to protect:
Structural integrity
Product quality
Warranty standards
Insurance compliance
Staff safety
Customer property
Safe working conditions
It also helps reduce unnecessary noise, dust, disruption and potential damage on site.
The customer acknowledges that delivery, carrying, lifting, transporting, moving, handling, mounting and assembly of large timber products involve inherent operational risks.
To the fullest extent permitted under South African law, Shelf Space, its directors, employees, contractors, suppliers and representatives shall not be liable for:
Indirect or consequential damages
Delays or operational interruptions
Loss of income or profits
Damage to walls, floors, ceilings, paint, tiles, paving, fittings, plumbing, wiring, waterproofing, furniture, vehicles, landscaping, driveways or surrounding property
Cracks, scratches, chips, dents or markings arising from site access or assembly limitations
Hidden pipes, conduits, wiring, waterproofing or structural defects not visible during assembly
Structural failures arising from walls, floors, ceilings, mounting surfaces or building movement
Injury, loss, theft or damages arising from unsafe or unsuitable sites
Damage resulting from customer-approved mounting locations, layouts or instructions
Moisture, humidity, weather, environmental exposure or natural timber movement over time
By proceeding with delivery and/or assembly, the customer indemnifies and holds harmless Shelf Space and its representatives against claims, losses, liabilities, damages, legal costs or expenses arising directly or indirectly from delivery, assembly, site access, handling, use of products, approved specifications or site conditions, except where such liability may not lawfully be excluded.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability where prohibited by South African law, including gross negligence or wilful misconduct where legally applicable.
